Mission Statement-
To empower African-American students from elementary through high school with the education, mentorship, and exposure necessary to pursue careers in medicine, addressing racial disparities in healthcare through early investment in future physicians.
Program Objectives
Early engagement: Program starts with elementary, middle and high school students to spark interest in sciences, mathematics and build foundational skills.
Mentorship: Pairing students with medical physicians, residents and students to provide guidance and support.
Academic enrichment: Activities include workshops in sciences, health, study skills, and medical education.
Exposure to healthcare: Students experience different facets of medicine through activities like shadowing, skills labs in suturing, splinting, casting, CPR, and first aid simulation labs, and visits to healthcare environments.
College and career readiness: Programs help with college admissions guidance, social support, test prep support, and building skillsets for a healthcare career.
Longitudinal support: Offer school year-round activities and support to the schools and students through career day programs, quarterly workshops, ongoing mentoring and shadowing opportunities.
Community engagement: Online community exposure to medical specialties monthly. Support for health fairs and career days by our network of physicians and faculty.
